Quilting Sister Cities: Baldwin City, Kansas and Riviersonderend, South Africa

Baldwin City quilters took their love of the time-honored craft to an international level when they became a "Sister City" with Riviersonderend, South Africa. Robin Goff of the Light Center served as ambassador, sharing knowledge and resources with our South African quilting friends. The two groups made quilts reflecting their own culture and exchanged them at an event when several quilters from their sister city visited Baldwin City. Both quilts hung in the Baldwin City Library before the Kansas themed quilt was taken home to South Africa.

Signs were installed in early October 2023 on the east and west sides of town, letting folks know Baldwin City is the Quilt Capital of Kansas, by Resolution of the Kansas Senate in 2019. We also have a Sister City! Riviersonderend, South Africa, is Baldwin City's official Sister City.
