Douglas County Free FairJuly 27 thru August 1, 2026 It's time to get ready for the fair! The Fair Book is available for download at https://dgcountyfair.com/fair-info/. The Quilting Open Class listings begin on page 99 of the book. We welcome quilts of all levels, with multiple categories and sizes to choose from for your entries for amateurs and professionals. Check-in for your entries will be Monday, July 27 from 1pm to 6pm in Building 21. Out-of-County entries are accepted in all Open Classes. All exhibits will be released for pickup Sunday, August 2 from 8am to 10am.
Vinland FairAugust 6-8, 2026 The Vinland Fair, established in 1907, is a yearly tradition in small-town Vinland, Kansas. Enjoy the three-day fair and experience home-baked pies, a tractor pull, old-time farm skills competitions, a variety of activities for kids, and much, much more, all for free admission!There are multiple categories available for entry under the Home Department, including quilts, sewing, crochet, hand stitching, and more! All entries must be in place on Thursday, August 6, except for livestock. Entries will be received between 4 pm-7 pm. Judging begins at 7:15 pm
Kansas State Fair - Hutchinson, KansasSeptember 11 thru 20, 2026 It's also time to get your entries in online for the Kansas State Fair! From the homepage, click Competition and then Competitive Exhibits to get to the fair books and entry links. The Clothing and Textile Department includes the Quilting Division, which begins on page 11. All of their various competitive departments already have their information available for download. The online entries opened May 1 and close August 1. Late entries can be made for a late-fee through August 19.As in years past, Liz and Sharon will be organizing delivery of entries from the Baldwin City area to the State Fairgrounds. Drop-off dates are Aug 27-28-29 and items are released for pick-up on the last day of the fair on Sun., Sept 20 from 6-8pm or Mon., Sept 21 from 9am to 1pm. Contact the shop to be included in our delivery.
2026 Summer Classes
Classes through the Quilt Capital of Kansas
The QCKS team continues to update the list of classes through 2026! Be sure to check back as we add new classes for youth from 6th grade through adult. Registration for all classes is available on the Quilters' Paradise website. All classes will be held at the Lumberyard Arts Center, unless otherwise noted, as part of the Quilt Capital of Kansas partnership. Classes require advance enrollment through the Quilters' Paradise website or by contacting the shop directly. Classes with no enrollments three (3) days prior to class will be cancelled.

Free Open Studio for Textile Arts on Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center. The studio will be open to anyone wanting to work on quilting/sewing/textile/needlework projects. We've had people spinning fiber, crocheting, embroidering, quilting and more! All welcome! This time offers a great opportunity to finish up UFOs, get answers to questions about patterns, or just come enjoy stitching with friends. Sewing with friends is always more fun!
