The classes are through the collaboration between Quilters' Paradise and the Lumberyard Arts Center in promotion of Baldwin City's designation as Quilt Capital of Kansas. Classes will be held at the Lumberyard Arts Center unless otherwise noted.

Scared Stitchless to Free Motion Quilt -- Sat., Mar 11

The March 11 class is FULL! Thank you!!!
We've added an "Add to Wait List" option for the next session of this class to be scheduled this summer!
Take the fear out of dropping your feed-dogs
in this introduction to free motion quilting on your domestic sewing machine.
Learn about needles, threads, marking tools, and more, plus pin your first sample project to begin quilting in class!

One Block Wonder Art Quilt--Wed., Mar 15

One Block Wonder quilts look complicated, but are actually quite easy to make and each one is completely unique! Six repeats of one fabric are cut into strips and then sub-cut into sets of 60 degree triangles. Despite being a quilt full of hexagons, the assembly has NO Y-seams!

Barn Block Painting Workshop--Sat., Mar 18

Create your own painted quilt block that can be hung inside or out with Laura Davids. Registration deadline extended to Tues., March 14
to allow your blocks to be prepped prior to class.

Machine Paper Piecing--Wed., March 22

Have you seen numbered quilt patterns in books or magazines and wondered what they were? Have you seen perfect patchwork resulting from foundation paper piecing by machine? Foundation paper piecing is a method that allows you to create accurate patchwork blocks quickly and easily by machine. Come join Cheryl Travis to learn the basics of Foundation Paper Piecing on Wed., March 22 from 10:30am to 1:30pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

One Block Wonder CUBED!--Wed., Apr 12 & 26

Add cubes to your One Block Wonder quilts for a whole new look! OBWs are actually quite easy to make and each one is completely unique. Six repeats of one fabric are cut into strips and then sets of 60 degree triangles. Add triangles in three values of a color to create 3D cubes to break up and enhance your overall design. Despite being a quilt full of hexagons, the assembly has NO Y-seams! Two-day class to be held Wed., April 12 & 26 from 10am to 3pm in the Lumberyard Arts Center classroom.

Hand Applique--Wed., May 10

Join Sharon Vesecky to learn the basics of hand applique. This class will focus primarily on leaves and stems, making sharp points and nice curves.

English Paper Piecing--Wed., May 24

The traditional Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts are made using the English Paper Piecing or EPP technique. Sharon Vesecky will teach you the basics of basting your fabric to the templates and then stitching the parts together. There are a variety of template shapes available to make different designs. Be prepared to get addicted!

Prism Kaleidoscope Quilt--Wed., June 7

Using just two fabrics, make this stunning kaleidoscope quilt using the Prism blue border print from In the Beginning Fabrics and a white background. Designed by Jason Yenter, the way the octagons are cut from the border fabric, the lattice look is part of the blocks! Sharon will guide you through the cutting and piecing steps to get you launched on this great pattern. Class to be held at the Lumberyard Arts Center on Wed., June 7 from 10am to 3pm.

Hexified Panel Quilt--Wed., June 21 & 28

Take your One Block Wonder skills and give them a twist with Liz as she guides you through making a Hexified Panel Quilt! Using 7 identical panels, cut six into strips and then subcut into sets of 60 degree triangles, and then build your color-flow of hexagons around the 7th uncut panel. Two-day class to be held at the Lumberyard Arts Center on Wednesdays, June 21 & 28 from 10am to 3pm.

Quilting Basics with Liz Granberg-Jerome will be offered on first Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center. Over the series you will make enough blocks to create a throw size sampler quilt. Bonus block patterns will be available in classes to make a larger sampler quilt.

Quilting Basics Part 2 -- Wed., Mar 29 **Date Change**
Adding Flying Geese and Diamond in a Square units will add new variations to your quilting skills. Note: This class is on a new rescheduled date.

Quilting Basics Part 3 -- Wed., Apr 5
Take the fear out of sewing curves by adding Drunkard's Path curved piecing, plus a little machine applique with a Dresden Plate.

Quilting Basics Part 4 -- Wed., May 3
Putting it all together--finalize your blocks and begin a layout design while discussing whether to add sashing, cornerstones, and/or borders. Review of several alternate layout options, as well as discussion of batting choices, backings, and the quilting process.
