Machine Paper Piecing with Cheryl



Have you seen numbered quilt patterns in books or magazines and wondered what they were? Have you seen perfect patchwork resulting from foundation machine paper piecing? Foundation paper piecing is a method that allows you to create accurate patchwork blocks quickly and easily by machine. Come join Cheryl Travis to learn the basics of Foundation Paper Piecing on Wed., March 22 from 10am to 1pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

By placing your fabrics on the paper foundation and sewing on the lines, you can create unusual shapes with perfect points using the Foundation Paper Piecing method. Cheryl will teach you the basic steps that can then be used in more complex patterns. You will create one FPP pineapple log cabin in class and receive additional foundations to make a table runner.

Supply list:
Sewing machine in good working order (bring power cord, foot pedal, feet, and instruction manual)
New Microtext sewing needle size 90/14
Rotary cutter
Add-a-Quarter ruler
Misc sewing supplies--pins, thread, scissors/snips, etc.
Cutting mats and iron/ironing station will be available for use in class.

Fabric:
1 -- 5" square of fabric (will be set on point, fussy cuts are fun for the center as shown in photo)
4 -- 2 1/2" x WOF strips of light fabric
4 -- 2 1/2" x WOF strips of dark fabric
Try to use coordinating fabrics or go for a scrappy look.
