Flying Geese 6 Ways

As many quilters as there are, there may be as many different ways to make Flying Geese units, a common unit used in creating quilt tops. Whether you make them one at a time, four at a time, or by just stitching two half-square triangles together, the finished unit will look the same. So far Liz has found 6 different ways to make flying geese. Take time to try each technique and see which one works best for you. Even if a pattern gives you instructions how to make them, if you know you’re more confident with a different technique, as long as they come out the correct size, do what works best for you! Hopefully you’ll leave less intimidated by patterns with lots of geese in them.

In addition to making samples in each technique, Quilters' Paradise has copies of the Geese in the Field, the pattern that was used on this darling angel quilt, as a quilt to practice your new-found skills. The blocks can be any set of ~8" block panels (9 1/2" with border to fit the block), a focus fabric of Asian prints, any medium to large scale floral fabric, or any fabric of your choice. Coordinate the geese and sky colors with your block fabrics for a fun quilt! The shop sample was made with a farm scene in the blocks with coordinating geese of various colors.
