Twilling--Surface embroidery with Cheryl T & Liz G-J

The Palestrina embroidery stitch, now commonly known as twilling, is a lovely knotted surface embroidery stitch that can give dimension to any project. Made with a simple knotting technique done on a single stitch into the fabric, the results are a chain of connected surface knots that are more visible than traditional outline embroidery stitches. Originally named for Palestrina, Italy, this stitch may date back as far as thirteenth century. Learn this stitch with Cheryl Travis and Liz Granberg-Jerome.
Wed., August 7, 6pm to 9pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center
Start with a kit created by Cheryl that will include a basic sunflower design traced onto a square of fabric, a needle, and pearl cotton thread enough to create your first sample. Once you master the stitch, nearly any design can be traced and stitched with twilling for a striking look. The holiday tree with paisley shaped branches will be available to trace as a follow-up project to make in time for Christmas.
What to bring to class:
Thread snips/scissors
Thimble
