Youth: PJ Bottom Sewing Fun



Create your very own PJ bottoms as you build your sewing skills! Learn basic sewing skills with your instructor team.
Saturday, July 20 from 1:00-4:30pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

Youth class for ages: 6th-12th grade

Students will learn how to lay and cut out a pattern, sew basic stitches and make some fun PJ pants. Students provide a lightweight flannel or cotton that has been laundered prior to class. Measure hip size to determine fabric yardage.  Measurements are for 45” or 60” wide fabric. Students can bring their own sewing machine or use machines that are provided.  Thread and scissors will be provided. 

Hips           

XS (31-33”)   2-3/4 yards

S (35-37”)    2-3/4 yards

M (39-41”)    2-3/4 yards

L (43-45”)     2-7/8 yards

XL (47-49”)    2-7/8 yards


Supply List:

Yardage based on hip measurements (see above) available at Quilters' Paradise. Must prewash prior to class. Cost of cotton fabric of choice at Quilters' Paradise will be covered by the DCHCC Grant for those with verified enrollment.

No fleece--prewashed cotton or light weight flannel only.

Summer 2024 Youth Classes are supported by a grant from the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council.


This class is co-sponsored by the Lumberyard Arts Center and Quilters' Paradise as part of the Quilt Capital of Kansas programming.


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Prior experience using a sewing machine or having taken Sewing Survival with Angie
Requirements: Limited to youth in grades 6-12 interested in learning intermediate sewing skills.
Purchase your fabric of choice at Quilters' Paradise in advance and pre-wash/dry before class.

Instructor: Youth Instructor Team
Instructor Bio: Angie Spielman, Cheryl Travis, and Ruthie Rodden will lead the youth sewing classes as a team. All experienced sewists/quilters who are eager to help you learn!
