Triangle in a Square--54-40 or Fight Block with Liz Granberg-Jerome
Triangle in a Square, also known as a Tri-Rec or Spikey & Peak, is most known for its use in the 54-40 or Fight block. When this block is used in a two-block layout with, for example, a snowball block or Churn Dash that has triangles in the corners, it can create the illusion of curves without any curves being sewn in the quilt. The TIS unit can be made using a paper foundation, the two-piece tri/rec ruler set, or the TIS Loc Bloc ruler. For this class we will be using the TIS Bloc Loc ruler--either the 3" or 4" finished. Examples and pattern suggestions to use the 54-40 or Fight block to make dynamic quilts will be provided.
Wednesday, January 29 from 1-4pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center
This sample from Sharon's Tennessee Waltz shows the 54-40 or Fight block coupled with a snowball block to create the illusion of curves used the 3" finished Bloc Loc TIS template set.
This portion of Stars Blanketing the Prairie used a simple chain block coupled with the 54-40 or Fight block for a modified Irish Chain look, using the Bloc Loc TIS 4" finished template set. This pattern was published in the 2023 All Kansas & Nebraska Shop Hop magazine.
