Quilters’ Paradise Class Schedule

We continue to be grateful for the Quilt Capital of Kansas collaboration
between Quilters' Paradise and the Lumberyard Arts Center
that allows our classes to be held in the LAC classroom.
 

 


Meet our teachers:

Angie Spielman, a fairly new quilter, is sharing her newfound talents with area youth and adults alike.

Becky Fender who brings 30+ years of experience to her crochet classes.

Cheryl Travis is a talented crafter and quilter who enjoys sharing her passion with others.

Janet Anderson-Story has over 30 years of experience crocheting and hopes to share her passion with new and intermediate crocheters.

Jessica Drugg is a certified instructor in Laura Heine's fusible collage technique.


Kathleen Thomas is a local fabric landscape artist.

Laura Davids, a talented quilter and maker, brings a range of different classes that feature making of various bags, tuffets, painted barn blocks, and more!

Liz Granberg-Jerome, a very creative and talented quilter with over 50 years of sewing experience, teaches a wide variety of classes at Quilters' Paradise. A few of her favorites that will be offered again are Beginning Quilting series, Scared Stitchless Introduction to Free Motion Quilting, and One Block Wonder and Hexified Panel Quilts. 

Sharon Vesecky, Quilters' Paradise owner and experienced quilter, offers classes on hand quilting and applique techniques, as well as an introduction/overview class on longarm quilting.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Great class for beginners or those who wish to brush up on their crochet technique. Join Janet Anderson-Story to learn basic stitches. Some yarn and hooks will be available at the class or bring your own. Saturday, June 7, from 10am to 1pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Advanced beginner crochet class to learn to make a corner-to-corner blanket with Janet Anderson-Story. Some yarn and hooks will be available at the class or bring your own. Saturdays, June 21 AND July 20, from 10am to 1pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Advanced beginner crochet class to learn to make a hat with Janet Anderson-Story. Some yarn and hooks will be available at the class or bring your own. Saturday, August 2 from 10am to 2pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Do you have a denim garment you want to make special? This class is for you! For everyone from 6th grade through adults Sat., July 19 from 10am to 12pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

Create this lovely collage wall-hanging with a fusible applique wedding ring that is surrounded by parts and pieces of vintage hankies. Bring your own vintage hankies or use from Liz's collection available in class. Sunday, July 13 from 10am to 3pm

Join Jessica as she teaches you the Laura Heine Technique of creating a collage quilt. Choose from Teeny Tiny Collage Set #7--Santa, Snowman, or Reindeer Sunday, August 3 from 9am to 3pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Macrame plant hanger with Angie & Becky. Make this plant hanger by using the macrame technique of knotting cord with intent to create the "cradle" to hold a pot. Saturday, July 26 from 10am to 1pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

Are you Scared Stitchless to drop your feed dogs to free motion quilt your own quilts? Learn the basics of what you need to know before you begin and practice on your first free motion quilting sample. Sunday, July 27 from 10am to 4pm, Lumberyard Arts Center

Adding binding to a quilt can be a challenge, whether finishing by hand or machine. Liz will share her experience and demonstrate several types of binding options and guide you through adding binding to a small project. Wednesday, July 16 from 6pm to 9pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center

Circle of Friends is a fun quilt to make combining the 54-40 or Fight block and snowball block with an applique heart in the center. Alternate Dresden Heart applique (as shown) will be available in class. When the 54-40 or Fight block is used in a two-block layout with blocks with triangles in the corners such as the snowball block, it creates the illusion of curves without any curves being sewn in the quilt. Learn how to use the TIS Bloc Loc ruler or EZ Quilting Tri-Recs tools to make some spectacular new quilts! Sunday, August 17 from 10am-3pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center

Jump start your quilting to a new level by learning how to foundation paper piece! This technique allows you to create more complex blocks with shapes that aren't easily traditionally pieced. You'll get sharp points effortlessly! By learning the basics, you can then take on larger projects with knowledge and helpful tips. Sunday, June 22 from 1:00-4:00pm, Lumberyard Arts Center

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Create your very own PJ bottoms as you build your sewing skills! Sat., August 9 from 10am to 12:30pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Need help making a garment? This class is for you! Get help laying out patterns, altering to fit you, and more! Sunday, June 29 from 10am to 1pm at the Lumberyard Arts Center.

AGES 12/6th GRADE THROUGH ADULT Survival Sewing with Angie & Ruthie. Learn to thread and sew on a sewing machine, mend a seam, sew on a button, and other basic survival sewing techniques. Saturday, June 14 from 10am-12pm
